McCain (Caveman Speaketh) Your Thoughts?

McCain is speaking on MSNBC right now.  I'm sorry but this is frightening.  He gives speeches like a 4th grade play.  It's kind of endearing but terribly boring.

The bad part is that everytime he makes a jab at Obama then pauses and waits for cheers (in front of the crowd of a hundred) he snickers like a pervert.

Now that Obama has tied him successfully to Bush, he's on the defense and it does not wear well.

Mcain makes me sad.  He was very plastic in his praise of Clinton and Obama...especially Clinton when he patronizingly tried to tie himself to her as his "friend".

Thoughts on McCain's speech?

My thoughts about McCain's candidacy:  No More Years!  Bye Repugs.

Sorry about the brevity, I thought it might be nice to open the floor for a discussion about the speech.

He's terrible...

Do you want to give McCain the election by (2.00 / 1)

nominating somebody who is not SO much better that they CLEARLY are a cut above.

Thats what we seem to be doing.

Teleprompter is not his friend (2.00 / 1)

So hilarious it's obvious he's reading it.

Re: Teleprompter is not his friend (none / 0)

Of course he is! He's complimenting Hillary Clinton, he's talking about the need for energy reform, he's up there actually talking in a way that sounds as if he's promoting unity. You think he'd do that without prompts?

Bobby Jindal talked so fast (1.00 / 0)

he made me nervous he was so nervous. But he's only 36, so I forgive him.

Thoughts on McCain's speech?

It's boring. But I'll really be looking forward to his concession speech in November.

Re: McCain (Caveman Speaketh) Your Thoughts? (2.00 / 2)

He's definitely reading and I think they wrote the "pause and smile" into the speech.

Re: McCain (Caveman Speaketh) Your Thoughts? (2.00 / 1)

When he says "That's not change we can believe in", he sounds like my two year old daughter when we're prompting her to learn a new phrase.

by reconad on Tue Jun 03, 2008 at 09:00:46 PM EST

Refrain is getting old (1.00 / 0)

"That's not change we can believe in" followed by his forced smile.

Re: McCain (Caveman Speaketh) Your Thoughts? (2.00 / 1)

It was interesting how he reached out the Hillary supporters. It sounded almost like he's been reading the Hillary blogs and knows how many think Obama wasn't chosen fairly. He'll be using that to woo them. It was clunky and obvious the way he did it but that's just him.  I wonder how many will buy it.

by Becky G on Tue Jun 03, 2008 at 09:01:56 PM EST

The audience was practically groaning (2.00 / 1)

as he did it. Must be like fingernails on a chalkboard to them.

Re: McCain (Caveman Speaketh) Your Thoughts? (none / 0)

It strikes me as simply the worst kind of condescension. Years and years of hatred for Hillary Clinton. Years of calling her a man, a nazi, a liar, a closet lesbian, calling her daughter ugly... But he expects her supporters to forget all of that and love him because he is buttering them up at the most politically opportune moment possible.

I mean, seriously... he called both her and her daughter ugly. He said absolutely nothing like he did tonight to the woman who called her a bitch just a year prior. In what world is that not considered a million times more derisive and sexist than anything Barack Obama has said to or about Hillary Clinton?

For the record, HE didn't call her the things I listed above. But his party did, and he certainly didn't have any problems with joining in.

this is definitely a general election speech. i'm surprised those goopers in the audience haven't thrown vegetables at him yet.

Re: McCain (Caveman Speaketh) Your Thoughts? (2.00 / 1)

Well he is playing the cards we know he has.

Trying to get as many pissed of Clinton Supporter as he can.

You now what was really interesting, the comments by one of the political corrsepondent (don't remember the name).

Obama will ask her to be his VP only if he has some assurance that she will refuse.

As for Clinton, she doesn't really want the job but cannot afford politically to say no. So she said prehemptively... yes.

Not voting for him but I like him too. (2.00 / 1)

It's a reform year on both sides, it would be nice to get a debate about issues going before November.

Hope the signal to noise ratio is small.

And Obama better not overdo it on the age issue.

Re: McCain (Caveman Speaketh) Your Thoughts? (2.00 / 2)

Really?

is he talking about issues or is he saying "Bad Obama" pause, smile, snicker "Clinton is my friend" pander pander, "Bad Obama" pause, smile, snicker.

That's pretty much what I heard.  Ignoring the fact the Clinton supporters are democrats and have nothing in common with his platforms.

he'd destroy women's rights and although he claims not to, he totally supports Bush's policies.

McCain (2.00 / 2)

He has been weighed, he has been measured, and he has been found wanting.

Oh, yeah, I can see what 4 years of this putz would be like.

How 'bout we get together, and beat his ass?

Now THAT's some change I could believe in!

He is positively the worst speaker ever! It is almost unfair to put him up against such a dynamic speaker as Obama.

by rf7777 on Tue Jun 03, 2008 at 09:04:24 PM EST

Obama must sound like a great speaker (1.00 / 2)

if you are around 20 years old.. But he doesn't have the knowledge that he would need to be a good President.

For Chrissakes, HE THINKS THE US HAS 57 STATES!

Seriously??? You realize if he'd said 47, he'd be accurate, right? He was thinking fifty, knowing that he meant 47, so he said 57.

Re: McCain (Caveman Speaketh) Your Thoughts? (2.00 / 2)

The smirk before his tagline is really awful - "that's not change we can believe in."

It's more standard Republican rhetoric - which sounds good so long as you don't think about it.  "I trust the common sense of the American people," "I want you to have more choices."

I can't wait until we start to hammer home what this means - "if something goes wrong, you're on your own, sucker."

I kept trying to watch it and my eyes just slid off and I found the wall to the right of my TV far more interesting.

Then I remembered that I have a Hooters calendar on the left side of my wall. So I tried to make my eyes slide off the TV that way.
